But we are going to start with the 3 most common.
Manufactures, store, and catalinas.

Manufacturers coupons


Manufacturers coupons are the most common coupons.
They are just as the name implies, saving's offered by the manufacturer themselves.
The store does not take a loss if you use a manufacturers coupon.
In fact they are not only reimbursed from the manufacturer, they usually receive a small handling fee, and it got you to come into their store.
So you can feel good using a manufacturers coupon, you save & the store profits.
Manufacturers coupons can be found everywhere, direct from the manufacturers website, or the countless number of coupon sites, newspapers, in store peelies & blinkies, your mailbox, etc.

Store coupons


A store coupon is also just as the name implies, saving's offered by a particular store or chain of stores.
They will contain the name of a particular store and usually include their logo.
These coupons are saving's offered by the store themselves.
Store coupons can be found in the stores flyers in newspapers, through the mail, in-store, or on the web, for most popular grocery store. Check out our list of common Grocery store links.

Catalina


A Catalina is the coupons you get at checkout when making a purchase.
A purchase of particular items will often trigger a Catalina to print.
The coupon prints out from the Catalina machine, a little box next to the register.
Some Catalina’s are good for any purchase. So basically, if it is $2.00 off your next order, you can use it towards any purchase.
Catalinas, refer to the coupons themselves & some coupons that come out of the Catalina machine are manufacturer coupons and sometimes that are specific to that store.
Many catalinas have a store on them and can only be used at that particular store.

Now that you know the 3 main types of coupons, let us make it clear, in a cloudy sort of way.
The first thing you need to know it that different stores Have different policies.
If coupons are going to be a part of your grocery saving's plan, and they should, find out the policies of the stores where you shop.

I know by now you have seen a news story or an article about extreme couponing.
They all say the same thing, that you can get carts full of groceries with little to no money.
Well the truth is that for most of the one's I have seen, their claims are true.
Now here is where it get's a little cloudy, chances are it's not realistic for your situation.
Time, Money, & Space, are all major factors in the extreme couponing world.
They tell you their story, and often great details on methods but many overlook the facts.
Often they stockpile several years worth of particular products when it saves or even pays to do so.
Many purchase, trade, & swap items, coupons, refund offers, & more with other extreme couponers.
And most devote a considerable amount of time to the world of extreme couponing.
So for most people this extreme couponing dream saving's is just that , a dream.
But don't loose hope just yet, even if you don't have the time & space to reach that level.
You can still use the methods to save money in a way the does fit your family's particular situation.

The first thing you have to do is get coupons


This really is an easy thing to do & does not have to be time consuming.
The time really is up to you, & the level you choose to engage in.
Coupons can be found everywhere, direct from the manufacturers website, or the countless number of coupon sites, newspapers, in store peelies & blinkies, your mailbox, etc.

Make sure any website you plan on using is reputable before wasting your time.
And if you happen to travel grab some coupons from the paper, coupon inserts vary from region to region you're likely to get coupons that you've never seen before.

Now for the coupon magic

Put that knowledge into huge saving's with smart couponing.

Store coupons can be combined with a manufacturers coupons at most stores.
meaning double savings on the same item, combine with an in-store sale & you really save.

Some stores also accept competitors coupons, so you can stack a manufacturer's coupon with a competing store's coupon

In general, if you’re using a manufacturer Catalina, you can’t use a manufacturer coupon along with it.
However if you’re using a store Catalina, you can use it along with a manufacturer coupon.

Combine a buy 1 get 1 free coupon with a buy 1 get 1 free sale, and you could get both items for free.

Check the clearance rack, Clearance prices are good, but they can get even better with coupons.

Most coupons specify the size of the product that must be purchased, but when they don't it's an invitation to get it free or better. If you use your "any size" coupons in the trial size section of the store.

If your grocery store has a frequent shopper card you should sign up, you could save even more.
